Daily Gospel Reflection for September 29, 2026

Reflect on the Gospel of John and the role of angels in our lives as we celebrate the archangels. Embrace the comfort of divine guidance and protection.

Today's Gospel: John 1:47-51

Jesus is in the process of choosing his disciples. He had already found Simon (Peter), Andrew, and Philip. Philip found Nathaneal for Jesus, though Jesus knew He was going to choose Nathanael after seeing him under the fig tree. Nathanael seems to act like Thomas, doubting who Jesus was, but soon sees for himself how wrong he was.

Then, Jesus said to Nathaneal,

“Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”  

What an amazing sight that will be! In fact, today is the day we celebrate and remember our three archangels, Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel, and in a few days, we will remember our guardian angels on their day. What a wonderful gift our heavenly Father gives us for protection and guidance. As Catholics, this is one more way that we believe we are being protected, mentored, and accompanied throughout our lives. We should never feel alone. Truly, we are not alone, and we never will be. There have been times in my life when I knew in my gut that I was just saved by my angel, several times from a near car crash. St. Pio had a special relationship with angels; he could see them and send them where they were especially needed.

To be profoundly serious here, we all need to acknowledge our guardian angels. We should speak to them, pray to them, and thank them, but never name our angels since they are not ours to control or own. They are our gift from God to love us and guide us.

Have you ever looked up the three archangels' role in the Bible and studied them?

Pray:

Dear heavenly Father, thank You so very much for the gift of the angels. Help us to remember that we are never alone and that we should acknowledge them and ask them to help us.

Pray Together:

Teach the St. Michael Prayer to the family and pray it together whenever you leave the house each day.
