Daily Gospel Reflection for September 30, 2021

Today's Gospel: Luke 10:1-12

Have you ever asked God what His will is for you, only to get distracted and go every other place except the one He is telling you to?

In today’s Gospel, Jesus instructs his disciples to do two things. First, to take nothing with them for the journey and second to go straight to the place that He sends them to. These instructions seem pretty simple to follow at first glance, but upon closer examination, requires more thought and meditation.

Often times, we are sent out on a specific mission only to find ourselves abandoning God’s plans for our own and then wondering why we are miserable. To make matters worse, our path drifts further away when we reach for external things rather than reach for God. These things we distract ourselves with keep us from the true mission of Christ, to bring the Kingdom of God to others.

If you are in a place in your life where you are questioning or wondering why things are not working out, it may be a good idea to stop and pause and ask yourself if you have followed Jesus’s instructions. We can reflect by asking ourselves, am I relying on my own strength or God’s? Have I somehow gotten distracted from the original mission the Lord gave me?

As we ponder these questions, it is important not to be self-critical or harsh towards ourselves, but rather open and honest. As the Good Shepherd, it is the Lord’s job to guide us, and every time we get distracted, it is also His job to bring us back into the fold.

Today, use the Gospel for a spiritual realignment to come back to the mission that the Lord originally sent you on. Then, get back on the road and move in the direction He is telling you.

When I pray, do I come to God with my own agenda or am I listening to His will?

Pray:

Lord, I know that sometimes I can get distracted with my own will instead of yours. Help me today to get back on your path so that I can go straight to the place that you are sending me.
