Today's Gospel: Luke 17:11-19
In this passage, Jesus heals ten lepers who cry out for His mercy. Though they follow His command to go to the priests in faith, only one—a Samaritan—returns to thank Jesus. Jesus praises this foreigner for his true faith and gratitude.
This Gospel calls us to reflect on the role of faith and gratitude in our own lives. The ten lepers demonstrate faith by obeying Jesus before they see their healing. Their trust reminds us to move forward in faith, even when God does not seem to immediately respond. The passage also highlights the importance of gratitude. Only one leper returns in thanksgiving, and his action transforms his healing into a deeper encounter with Jesus. Gratitude allows us to recognize the blessings that God has given us and draws us into closer relationship with Him.
Jesus asks, "Where are the other nine?" This question challenges us to consider how often we have been this “other nine,” when we receive God’s gifts without pausing to thank Him. Faith brings us healing, but gratitude deepens our connection with God, reminding us to always return to Him in thanksgiving.
Ponder:
How can I cultivate a heart of faith and gratitude for God’s works in my daily life?
Pray:
Lord, give me the grace to trust in Your promises and to always return to You in thanksgiving for all the blessings in my life.
