Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 12:39-48

In Luke’s Gospel today, Jesus asks,

“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute the food allowance at the proper time?”

Did reading this make anyone else think, “Ha, that’s me! Now, what will I make for dinner tonight?”

For us as women and mothers, we often feel the responsibility of being that faithful and prudent steward. We’re in charge of raising, teaching, and guiding our family. Though traditionally we share this trust with a spouse as partner, there are times when - for various reasons – it falls on us alone.

St. Pope John Paul II, whose feast day we celebrate today, wrote “the universal call to holiness is closely linked to the universal call to mission. Every member of the faithful is called to holiness and to mission.” Our vocation as a mother comes with a mission – to get our children into heaven. In addition to meeting our family’s basic life-giving needs, we are creating a homelife that teaches and encourages our children to know, love, and serve God. Take heart that faithfully fulfilling this mission day after day helps us become holy.

Ponder:

Take a moment and reflect on your vocation as a mother and how it’s calling you to holiness.

Pray:

Lord, please continue to grant me the strength and self-discipline to remain Your faithful and prudent servant.
