Reflect on today's Gospel as Jesus calls us to recognize His signs in our lives and restore relationships with those around us. Embrace the call to repentance and forgiveness.

Today's Gospel: Luke 12:54-59

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus is condemning His listeners for being able to recognize the signs in the weather, but not in their own lives. Jesus has come to earth and identified Himself as the Messiah. He has been working miracles as outward signs to prove He is who He says He is. Just as the rising cloud and wind from the south indicate something more, His works should likewise inspire His listeners to recognize He is more than a prophet.

It can feel easy to judge them, thinking it absurd that they witnessed such miracles and refused to believe. Yet we do the same thing in our everyday lives. The Lord is working miracles around and through us all the time. We can be tempted to spend our energy interpreting the signs of the world at large: things like warring nations, political unrest, and other headlines that incite fear and anxiety in us.

Instead, Jesus invites us to rightly interpret His movement in our immediate lives. The Lord has picked our family members specifically for us. We can choose to focus our energy in experiencing Christ through the embrace of a spouse and the snuggle of a child.

Our families are also those whom we may struggle with. Inevitably, conflict will arise in our homes. In these moments, Jesus desires us to make amends as quickly as possible. The reality is that none of us know the day or hour that we will be called to the final judgment. If we are able to interpret the words of our Lord properly, we will recognize that refusing to repent and restore relationship—both with our families and with the Lord—is something we should never put off.

Ponder:

Is there a particular relationship I need to restore? What is preventing me from doing that?

Pray:

Lord, I desire to know Your signs in and through my life. Teach me to recognize You in every moment of my day.

Pray Together:

No matter how long it’s been, go to confession. The Lord is eagerly awaiting to offer you forgiveness and a restored relationship.
