Today's Gospel: Luke 17:7-10

The Gospel message this morning is a thoughtful lesson in Christian discipleship. We are reminded that as Christians, we are the servants of the Lord. It is important for us to work to the best of our ability as we are asked to do as followers of Jesus. We should be perpetual students in our Christian faith, learning at the foot of our Father, and guided by His Church.

I work as a librarian on a college campus, and so while I’m admittedly a bit biased on this point, one of the aspects of our faith that I enjoy and appreciate more and more the older I get is how much there still is to learn about it. It is indeed a wealth of riches, with the discovery of each new facet leading to an entire mountain of yet additional new material. The more we learn, the more we are able to grow and mature in our walk as Christ's disciples. We will inevitably stumble, and at times not learn from these missteps, at least right away, but our goal is to always keep moving forward. We work for the good of the Kingdom, and we are the servants of the Father. We are doing what we need to do, and while we will at times enjoy this process, we will also struggle with it and find it challenging at other times. At all times, though, the Father loves us and our efforts.

Ponder:

What is one area of my faith that I have always wanted to learn more about, and how can I explore that further today?

Pray:

Lord, in all of my daily activities and interactions, please help me to call to mind how I am above all Your servant in faith. Help me to demonstrate my Christian discipleship in everything that I do.
