Today's Gospel: Matthew 9:27-31

This is a short passage, but it features several important takeaways. There are two blind men who approach Jesus to ask for healing. Jesus then asks them if they truly believe He can heal them. After they reply in the affirmative, Jesus heals them. They then go out and spread the news about Jesus throughout the land. What can we learn from this Gospel?

  1. Ask God for what we need. They weren’t afraid to approach Jesus with their request. Sometimes, we might feel that our needs don’t matter to God, that God has bigger things to worry about, but we need to always remember that we can bring our needs, no matter how big or small, to God.
  2. Believe that God can heal us. Everyone needs some sort of healing, whether it be physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. We all have wounds. It can be hard to believe that God can heal us. Some days, I know the closest I can come is to want to believe. I firmly trust that God can work with that, helping the small amount of faith I do have to grow. Lord, I believe; please help my unbelief.
  3. Tell others about what God has done for us. These two men struggled with obedience. After all, Jesus told them not to tell anyone. However, they were so eager to share their good news, they couldn’t keep quiet. From their example, we can learn to share the good news of what God has done for us.

Ponder:

When was the last time you shared the good news of what God has done for you with someone?

Pray:

Lord, help me to truly believe that You can heal me. Please heal me in all the ways I need to be healed.
