Today's Gospel: Luke 5:17-26

We all know that faith is important for our own relationship with God, but it’s also important for those people who are in our lives regularly as well as those strangers who come and go. “Preach the gospel at all times; when necessary, use words," is often attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi.

In other words, actions speak louder than words.

Walk the walk before you talk the talk, because people pay closer attention to what you do over what you say.

My parish priest recently told me that many people who come in and out of our lives have never, and will never, read the Gospel. Many people have never, and will never, go to Mass. So, the only exposure they will ever have to God’s word is through us.

Through the way we behave.

Through the way we treat them and the way we treat others.

Through how we dedicate ourselves and our lives to God and His works by simply doing what He has asked us to do: serve.

We can all talk the talk, but walking the walking with inspiration and purpose is how change begins. It starts with humility, fidelity, and obedience. If we let God lead us, we can only inspire those around us because living God’s will is the only way to true inner peace and joy. When we have both of those things, it radiates out of us like a lighthouse beacon radiates through foggy storms.

What an important mission that is for all of us who wish to live and serve by example for those who are lost in a dark world that encourages selfishness over selflessness. Be the light you want to see and ask God to help you share with others the love and joy He constantly brings to your life.

Ponder:

How can I serve others so they can see the love and joy God has blessed my life with?

Pray:

Lord, give me the humility, fidelity, and obedience that I need to serve others so that they might be inspired to seek You out.
