Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 9:27-31

Jesus instructs many of those healed to tell no one, as He did the two blind men.

“Jesus warned them sternly, 'See that no one knows about this.' But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.” Matthew 9:30-31

Jesus knew His hour to redeem the world would come soon, and His mission was not simply about attracting people who wanted healing of their bodies. Far more importantly, Jesus was sent to prepare hearts for redeeming souls.

I relate more closely to those whom Jesus asked to say nothing yet went off to blabbermouth what He’d done for them. At the risk of sounding ridiculous, I never worry about appearing as a fool for the sake of spreading the Good News. It's too remarkable, and honestly, I struggle with the desire to share too much; I'm the queen of TMI. While not a miracle, I would love to share such a story related to the adoption of my daughter Faith from China.

Many years ago, we discerned God's call to adopt a child. I prayed for guidance, and the Holy Spirit revealed in prayer that my child would be deaf and three years old. I believed this so strongly that I learned sign language and shared my certitude with others while still humbly acknowledging the possibility of being wrong. Despite my conviction she’d be deaf, we kept an open mind on the adoption application, circling many special needs.

On April 30, 2009, our agency called with a match: a three-year-old, profoundly deaf girl. Astonishingly, her photo revealed a striking resemblance to my child, a connection only God could orchestrate. People often commented on the resemblance, a testament to God's perfect plan. When God answers our prayers and heals our doubts, how can we keep silent?

Ponder:

Is there a time Jesus did something so remarkable in your life you couldn't keep it to yourself?

Pray:

Jesus, thank You for Your healing mercies. Thank You for all the incredible ways You break into our daily comings and goings. Show me how to share this joy with all I meet.
