Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 3:1-12

We encounter John the Baptist as the pinnacle example of giving all to God by being enflamed by the Holy Spirit. Living in a world that prides itself on material fame and power, John the Baptist was a radical, exemplifying the power of the soul rather than the body to proclaim the Kingdom of God. His life epitomized that of an unending prayer in his actions and dedication to preparing the way for the Messiah. He was the greatest among the men of his time in that he sets aside love of himself and solely exists to reflect the glory of God.

Having humility and courage as John the Baptist, we must first and foremost live solely to increase the presence of God for those amongst us. In all circumstances, we must be ready to declare from our hearts that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. Pope Benedict XVI explained that at the center of Jesus' proclamation is the Kingdom of God, and that throughout history, in places where God has been abolished, both society and its souls are ruined. As Christians, we must not be idle but act with passion and vigor to spread the Good News to all around us with fervor and strength. As it is said, "What you want to ignite in others must burn in you."

Ponder:

How can I find my own driving forces of inspiration that channel a love of God in this world?

Pray:

God, we ask for assistance and strength. As the Gospel of Matthew declares, "For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be." Help me avoid areas that might divert or drain my energy away from spreading Your message of love and peace.
