Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 1:26-38

Eve said yes. Sin began. A savior was promised. Then Mary said yes. Her yes was phrased, “How can this be?”, which was soon followed by, “may it be done to me according to your word.”

The last time God asked you to do something hard, how did you respond? “You know, Lord, I’m not good at that.” “God, you know I’m afraid to just go talk to people, especially about my faith. That should be personal.” “I know You’re calling me to that role, I know You’ve given me that charism, but what would people think?” “I’m scared.”

I believe that our answer to God should follow Mary’s example. It’s okay to go ahead and ask God, “How can this be?” but don’t forget what happens next. Mary was told that the Holy Spirit would come upon her.

I doubt Mary dreaded what God asked her to do. In fact, I would bet that Mary was excited. God had not only chosen her, but through the Holy Spirit, He was going to equip her for this mission.

Today as we celebrate what Mary’s yes gave to the world, let’s celebrate what our yes to God’s will for our lives gives to the world. Just like Mary’s yes brought Christ to the world, our yes carries the same mission.

Ponder:

Can you find just a few minutes today to connect your heart and spirit to God and sincerely thank Him for the gifts He has given you?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, it seems like we wait all year for this day. Today, Father, I not only accept the gifts You have given me, I open them up, trusting that You have also poured Your Holy Spirit upon me, equipping me, just like You equipped Mary, for the calling You have on me.
