Motherhood demands nothing less than our very selves, rooting out selfishness by calling us to tend to our children's every need, day or night, year in and year out. We'd do well if we treated our Christian discipleship duties more like our mom duties. Just as moms don't get time off, neither do Christians. Both roles are part of our identity, a way of viewing the world, living, and ultimately serving that we can't shrug off like a coat that's become too heavy, too tight, or too restrictive. Jesus makes clear that discipleship isn't something we put off for the sake of convenience. His command, "Follow me," doesn't come with qualifiers.
