I see now why her books have always been so popular!  She has the ability to "grab you" on page one and keep you until you finish the book and are ready for more.  I was fascinated by the main character of this boo, a young boy who took care of his family, and grew to love him even more as he grew into manhood.   Rice’s  unique style kept me enthralled as my hero was transported to another time to help some friends in need. I very much enjoyed her vivid descriptions of events, places and the feelings of the characters.  She makes you part of the plot without being too wordy.  I am definitely ready for the next book!
