I attended my first Catechist meeting as "just" a Catechist on September 1st.  It was both satisfying and a little sad. I cannot lie and say that I do not miss the ministry of parish catechetical leadership, but it was very interesting and educational to watch someone else do it for a change. We received our schedules, rosters, and I enrolled myself in the "Prayer Partners" group. More on that later.

It was a good meeting.

Since then, I have started entering data into my Catechist Guide and discovered that I miss those lines on the monthly calendar more than I thought I would…but I am using it!  Once I have a final roster, I will enter the children’s names.  Yes, my OCPD is rearing its ugly head! We can’t very well have mistakes in our planner, can we??

As we only have one hour per week in which to catechize the children, it’s going to be a bit of a struggle to get through the chapter in a meaningful way. How do you handle your time constraints?

At my former parish, we had 1 ½ hours, and that didn’t seem like enough time.  Effectively catechizing the children in under an hour (let’s face it, not everyone is going to get there on time!) is proving a daunting task. Please keep me in your prayers!

Next week, I will share with you my plans for our first day together.
