About a month ago, I had the privilege of seeing a “sneak peek” preview of the new movie Soul Surfer. I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this dramatic replaying of the inspirational story of surfer Bethany Hamilton. The film’s primary stars, AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt did a fantastic job of bringing Bethany’s story to life.
For a complete rundown on how this film earns its PG rating, take a look at the comprehensive review on PluggedIn. I’ll simply say that I found the film to be amazing - an inspirational story, compelling acting, and amazing cinematography. The beaches of Hawaii have never looked so beautiful and the surfing scenes will take your breath away. There is a bit of intensity in the scene surrounding Bethany’s attack by a shark, but the imagery in neither gratuitous nor overly gory.
Be sure to stay until the end of the movie to see real home movies that were the basis for many of the scenes in this film. I’ll be anxious to hear the thoughts of those of you who view the film and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
