A few years ago, at a conference in Texas, I had a very interesting dinner with two kind gentlemen: a Catholic priest and a cool dad/filmmaker from Cape Town. Over the course of dinner, they told me about a film they were working together to develop. Imagine my delight at receiving a Facebook update this week from the filmmaker, talented Norman Servais, that they project has been completed!
The fruit of their labors is The Angel of Biscay. This film tells the story of the "Fatima priest", Fr Aloysius Ellacuria CMF. Here's a brief synopsis of the movie:
In a time of World upheaval God raised up an extraordinary priest. So completely did he sacrifice his will in the service of God and neighbour that blessings were showered upon him in abundance. His sanctity was confirmed by miracles. But, suffering became his companion, and dark nights he humbly endured. This 75 minute film tells the story of the "Fatima priest", Fr Aloysius Ellacuria CMF and traces his fascinating life journey from his Basque home in Northern Spain to the United States, Mexico and Portugal. Filmed on location, the film illustrates the character, mission and spirituality of a truly remarkable priest who changed the lives of so many.
While I haven't screened the entire movie yet, the six minute trailer gives you an excellent look at the film and also show's off the beauty of using this medium to share the good news. Please treat yourself to a few minutes of enjoyment and inspiration by watching the trailer below and please "like" the Angel of Biscay Facebook page to help us spread the word. Additionally, The Angel of Biscay is available for immediate viewing via streaming for only $4.99 here. By supporting these types of projects, we show the need for more great movies that highlight the Church.
