Has your doctor ever told you to get more exercise and eat better?  If so, you probably didn’t think, “Wow, I wish I knew that. If only I had known I’d be in terrific health!” Of course, knowing usually isn’t the problem. It’s doing what we know is right that we find to be a struggle.

It’s the same with our spiritual life. We know greed and envy are bad. We know we should be more grateful for what we have. We know we should be more patient with others. We know all these things, yet we struggle with them. St. Paul speaks for us all when he said, “I do not do what I want, but I do what I hate.” (Rom 7-13)

The good news is that God is aware of the stumbling blocks in our lives. He’s spoken to us about them in Scripture and is waiting even now to help us overcome these difficulties … So, don’t sweat it. Just open your Bible; start reading, and you’ll be fine.

Alright, there’s probably more to it than that. The Bible is an amazing source of wisdom and spiritual guidance. But most of us need a “guide to the guide.” And if you are ready to make some real changes in your life, if you are ready to be more like Christ, then check out Walking Toward Eternity: Engaging the Struggles of your Heart.

In Walking Toward Eternity: Engaging the Struggles of Your Heart, Jeff Cavins leads you through the most common and challenging obstacles all people face; anger, greed, envy, fear, shame and more. Through prayer, reflection, guidance, and the aid of the Holy Spirit, Walking Toward Eternity will train you how to engage these difficulties and advance toward the goal of union with Christ. It is a program of self-examination, discovery, challenge and transformation.

Transformation: that is the key to this program. A recent participant conveyed well what many experience after completing the eight week journey, “This has been a wonderful experience for me. It has opened my heart, and ignited my spiritual journey to the Lord.”

As you grow closer to the Lord you will find ways to grow closer to your spouse, your children, your family and friends. You will discover how to be happy with what you have, and not dwell on what you don’t. When you struggle with difficulties, you will find yourself asking,  “Lord, what are you putting your hand on in my life? What are you asking me to do about it? When do you want me to start?”
