Catholic Techie Alana Mitrovich

Alana Mitrovich is a young (to me, anyway) newlywed who responded recently to my call for Catholic Techies. She's a teacher in the Chicago area and a die-hard "techie." Oh, and she's Catholic (and she blogs!). Of course!

So let's meet her!

Tell us about yourself in five words or less.

Go-getter, dramatic, fun, scholarly, organized.

Of your pursuits, what's your favorite?

Definitely being a teacher.

When you think of the New Evangelization from your approach as a "Catholic Techie," what excites you? What makes you want to continue?

I think about how the world is changing and we can either meet everyone else where they are or we can lose out on the future generations of people who use technology. This is the way of the future.

I have a more prayerful life and dedication to the rosary because of the rosary app on my phone and iPad. I don't think I could keep this weekly rosary habit up without it.

What makes me want to continue is the future children I will have that will never know what it was like to have a "family computer" or telephones with cords. Technology will be their way of life and if we meet them in it we can share our faith.

What's the most rewarding aspect of your work?

Of my teaching work it is definitely when former students reach out to me via Facebook, etc., because they want to stay in touch. I have students that message me for advice, and it makes me feel like they trust me and my judgment. I am also one of the leaders in the Chicago diocese for Young Adult Ministries. I enjoy being with other young adults who have the same love for the faith as I do.

In your spare time, what are we likely to find you doing? Do you have a gadget in hand or do you go native and screenless?

In my spare time I love to read. I love to read multiple books at one time so I will have one on my phone, one on my iPad, and one on my Kindle all at once. I never go anywhere without at least my phone.
