Daily Scriptures Reflection for Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Scripture: Lectionary 427. Aug.28^th. I Thessalonians 2:9-13. Psalm 139:7-8,9-10, 11-12. Matthew 23:27-32:

Paul continues to encourage the Thessalonians to believe that God’s word (he means the Gospel he is preaching)be taken as the truth that it really is and to put that word into action within them and in their living the faith together as a community (Church). Since this is an inspired word of God it applies to us in our also being inheritors of the Gospel who are called not only to listen to the Scriptures but to carry them out daily. The word of God is our source for union with Jesus in his mission and in our prayers during those precious moments we set aside to converse and listen to God. When we read the Scriptures, God speaks to us. When we pray them, we speak to God.

We are privileged to have both the word of God and the sacrament of the Eucharist as the center of our worship of the Trinity each day if we so wish or are able to do so. The liturgical celebration helps us to take to heart the teachings of Jesus in a renewed and deepened way each day. It is worth our effort to participate in this as often as we are able to do so and even make it a daily practice.

Our Psalm and its response remind us of how deeply God knows us as our Creator and how much he loves us through Jesus our Redeemer. Nothing of our lives is hidden from God. We cry out with the Psalm, “Lord, where can I go from your Spirit? From your presence where can I flee? Yes, Lord, you have searched me and you know me. “

After prayer and the Eucharist we are ready to witness to God and to bring the Good News of the Gospel to those with whom we live and work and meet. We then realize that with Christ within our mind and our heart we can make this a better world. This is the meaning of the last words we hear in the Mass: Go out and bring the Good News to others. Amen.
