Catholic Techie Randy Hain

Though I've never met Randy Hain in real life, I have no doubt that when I do, I will do two things. First, run over to him and hug him. Second, pass the man some coffee.

Because, surely, he must not sleep. (Or maybe he has found a way to work while sleeping...I haven't been able to verify that yet.)

In addition to being a full-time executive and the co-founder of Integrated Catholic Life, Randy manages to write a book (or more) a year, speak around the country, raise a family, and shuffle a deck of cards with his eyes closed. (OK, I made up the last one. But I'll bet he can do it.)

What you may not be able to tell from nosing around Randy's sites is that he is, at heart, a techie. My money's on the fact that he was in line when the first iPhone came out and that he's always looking ahead to the digital horizon.

Randy's not afraid to share his faith: in fact, that's his passion. It's what drives him and makes him a joy to work with. So without further ado...Catholic Techie Randy Hain!

Tell us about yourself in five words or less.

A joyful pilgrim seeking Heaven.

Of your pursuits, what's your favorite?

As far as Church-related work goes, I have a passion for writing and speaking about our Catholic faith.  I feel called to share this joy with others.  I will soon release my fourth book, with two more to follow next year.  I am also passionate about my family and spending as much time with them as possible.

When you think of the New Evangelization from your approach as a "Catholic Techie," what excites you? What makes you want to continue?

I love the opportunities to reach people through social media and the written word.  Although I will likely never stop publishing books, it is incredible how many different ways we can reach people with the Good News.  I think the Church and the laity involved in tech-focused evangelization and ministry have made great strides in the last few years.  The results are obvious and encouraging.  On the somewhat corny side, I receive a random email every now and then saying that what I wrote made a difference in someone’s life.  I am hopefully wise enough to know that it is the Holy Spirit and not me, but the kind emails make you want to keep writing.

What's the most rewarding aspect of your work?

Experiencing joy and a sense of peace that what I am doing aligns with God’s will for my life.

In your spare time, what are we likely to find you doing? Do you have a gadget in hand or do you go native and screenless?

When I put my iPhone away and tame my tendency to look at the 100+ emails I receive a day, you are likely to find me writing an article/blog post or chapter of a new book.  You are also likely to find me reading a great book (paper, not Kindle) or throwing the football (or the ball appropriate to the sports season) with my sons.
