Daily Gospel Reflection for January 20, 2014

Today's Gospel: Mark 2:18-22

I don’t like change. I feel much more comfortable in the old way of doing things. One day I pray for conversion. The next day I get nervous and change my mind.

However, after reading this gospel passage, I have to wonder. How many times, in refusing to going along with the new ways of doing things, in trying to pour old wine into new wineskin, have I missed the joy and wonder of new life?

How many times have I been so caught up in my own agenda that I've missed seeing Jesus right in front of me?

Still, I need not fear. Jesus is always with me, loving me, offering me new life. New wine.

No matter what is going on in my life, in the world, in the Church, the good news is, Jesus never changes.

How do you deal with change? Personal change? Changes in the liturgy?

Pray:

Dear Lord, help me to trust you and be more open to change. Amen.
