Today's Gospel: Mark 8:11-13

I write this Gospel reflection in memory of a beautiful wife and mother of 14 who was recently killed in a car accident. This tragic event reminds us that we will have no sign from Christ today any more than the Pharisees did during the days of Jesus’ presence on earth.

There is great money to be made in television and big screen movies about the end of the world. We try to predict what is coming but find we never quite get it right. The unexpected death of a wonderful woman who birthed seven of her children and took seven others into her heart and home by adoption reminds us that the only sign we should be looking for is the opportunity to love.

The door of her home and the door of her heart were continually open to share more and more love with whomever needed it. Her life is proof that the only sign we really need is that first thing we see when we open our eyes in the morning, realizing that we have one more day to serve the Lord by sharing His love with others throughout the day.

We don’t know “the day nor the hour” (Matthew 24:36) in which our Heavenly Father will call us from this life into the next. Maybe we should spend more time concentrating on loving others and thereby loving Him rather than looking for a sign of what is to come.

Ponder:

Ponder: How deeply do I let myself get wrapped up with the signs of the world? Do I spend as much time immersed in the spiritual realm as I do the earthly realm?

Pray:

Prayer: Lord, thank you for another day to love You by loving those You place in my life today. May I see the needs of others as the sign you send today.

God rest your soul, Helen!
