Today's Gospel: Luke 16:19-31

"There was a rich man - who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table." - Luke 16: 19-21

What parishioner have I failed to see? What family member? What neighbor?

Who has wanted to talk to me and I was too busy to listen? Or too impatient? Or not available?

I remember the day when I complained to one of the priests in the parish office where I work that I had been so busy with phone calls and people coming in that I did not get much of my work done. And he said to me, "Maybe helping those people was the work you were supposed to get done."

Oh my. Had I become so task oriented that I forgot I was there to serve?

Now I try to remember my call to hospitality and service. And I pray for God's guidance and I ask Him, What hungry person sitting outside my door have I failed to feed today?

Ponder

Is there a Lazarus in your life who needs your help?

Prayer

Lord, help me be more aware of others who may need my help and prayers. Help me to remember to welcome all as Christ. Amen.
