Sweet and Spicy Slow Cook Chicken
Makes 6 servings
Ingredients:
- 6 chicken halves skinless
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
1. Place chicken in slow cooker and sprinkle with pepper.
2. Mix all other ingredients together, except cornstarch and water. Pour over chicken. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours, or high for 3 to 4 hours. Remove chicken and shred. Mix cornstarch and water together and add to sauce mixture. Cook on high with lid slightly ajar until sauce is thickened. Replace chicken.
Beans with Bacon
Makes 6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 pound green beans
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 strips bacon cut in 3/4 -inch pieces
- 1 medium onion cut in 1/4 - inch slices
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
1. Trim ends from beans; cut beans into 2-inch pieces. In a 3- quart saucepan, place green beans, water and salt. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until crisp-tender. Drain well; keep warm if necessary.
2. Meanwhile, in a medium skillet over medium-high heat, fry bacon until crisp and slightly browned. Remove bacon, drain on paper towels; set aside. Discard all but 1 tablespoon of the drippings.
3. Over medium heat, sauté onion in drippings for 10 minutes or until soft.
Stir cooked bacon, onion and pepper into beans and heat through.
