Daily Gospel Reflection for June 20, 2014

Today's Gospel: Matthew 6:19-23

For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. - Matthew 6:21

When I fell in love with God, when I decided that I wanted Jesus to be the Lord of my life and number One in my heart, then everything changed. I wanted to eat and sleep and breathe God.
I could not read too many Catholic books. I could not attend too many Masses. I could not pray too many prayers.

God became my treasure. And God held my heart.

I know I cannot take this treasure for granted. I know I must guard my heart. I must be vigilant. Pray daily. Read scripture. Go to Mass. Go to confession.

For other treasures beckon. Treasures of the world. Treasures that may make us happy for a short time, but they never last.

St. John Vianney said"You either belong wholly to the world or wholly to God."

I choose God.

Ponder:

Where is your treasure? Is Jesus the treasure of your heart? How do you know?

Pray:

Dear Lord, help me to remember to put you first always. To remember that You alone suffice. Help me to always remain aware of where my treasure lies. Amen.
