Today's Gospel: Matthew 11:25-30

I don’t know about you, but sometimes my life feels like a crazy, hectic roller coaster. My time between January 1 and June 1 is filled with homeschool, soccer, dance, church, soccer, dance, soccer, dance, church, homeschool … I know I’ll miss these crazy times someday, but there are many times by the end of May when I feel like ALL I WANT TO DO IS SIT STILL FOR HALF AN HOUR AND BE LEFT ALONE!

I remember hearing this Gospel reading last year, and nearly breaking down in the middle of Mass when I heard Jesus’ words:

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

Rest. It’s something all mothers feel as though they don’t get enough of. Some of us are just running crazy with 2 children, others might feel as though the line of diapers and nursing babies will never end.

But Jesus promises rest.

Even in our craziest moments, just hearing this from our Lord can give us comfort. Just knowing that He will provide the comfort and calm we need, even if it’s grabbed in tiny snippets between school lessons or as we pause to read Vespers in the car at soccer practice or as we pray a Rosary with the CD in the car while we rush from one place to another. Those are our moments of rest, times we can stop our busy minds to visit with Jesus, even as our bodies are still moving children from place to place. Take those moments. Savor them, fleeting as they might be right now. Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will help you carry them.

Ponder:

In my busy life, am I taking a moment or two each day to spend with the Lord? Do I allow Him to help me with my burden, or am I letting pride get in the way of that? What moments can I find to visit with the Lord, even if it’s for a moment?

Pray:

Jesus, I am so very busy with my vocation. I can’t do it without you. Help me find the moments to pause and rest with You.
