Today's Gospel: Luke 17: 20-25

Many people spend each day just going about their normal business, taking part in life’s merriment or even its strive, without much thought of the kingdom of God. Our behaviors and choices are not always  heaven focused or kingdom minded. And although there are many who believe in that someday God's kingdom will come, how many of us behave as if we believe it? Jesus is clear both in this passage and in Matthew 24:36 that not even he knows the time. The decision to seek the Kingdom of God is urgent. We need to be all the more mindful of our relationship with God.

Yet, as we read today’s Gospel, Jesus is teaching us it is already here. “The kingdom is among you,” he says. If I look around do I see evidence of that? Am I prepared?

Ponder:

It is so hard for me to think of the day my life here on earth will end, and I am faced with experiencing the Kingdom of God in a new way. My anxiety is greatly reduced when I place my life in perspective, keeping Christ in the center, and aligning everything towards Him. It is not easy, but when we read Jesus’ words we know the urgency and importance of this choice. We must trust in the graces of God promises to make it so. God would never set us up to fail or call us to something we could not accomplish.

Pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, they will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Prepare me for your kingdom, now and forever. Amen.
