Today's Gospel: Matthew 9: 27 -31

We are all blind in some way. Blind to the suffering of others, blind to the needs of those around us. We are spiritually blind as we go through life thinking of ourselves. Jesus can heal us of our insensitivity and self-absorption.

If we love and trust in Jesus, if we believe that He can do all things, He will touch our eyes too. As we grow in faith and love, Jesus will open our eyes to greater things. We will see the needs of others and be moved to help them.

Jesus warned the previously blind men not to spread word of him only because He was becoming too popular. It was difficult for Him to continue his work of teaching and spreading the Word of God. The crowds wanted to be enthralled by healing, miracles and entertainment from Him.

There are still miracles and healing that happen every day, but more souls can be touched and held by spreading the love and compassion of Jesus than by a big show.

Ponder:

In what way am I blind? Do I see my own shortcomings?

Pray:

Kind and gentle Jesus, help me to recognize my blindness. Then heal me, that my eyes will be opened to the changes I need to make in my life. Show me where I need to go, and help me to see the needs of those around me. Amen.
