Día de los Reyes Magos (Day of the Magi)

 “Después de haber nacido Jesús en Belén de Judea, en el tiempo del Rey Herodes, unos magos de Oriente se presentaron en Jerusalén diciendo: ¿dónde está el que ha nacido, el Rey de los Judíos? Porque hemos visto su estrella en el Oriente y venimos a adorarlo.

Al oír esto, el Rey Herodes se puso muy preocupado; entonces llamó a unos señores que se llamaban Pontífices y Escribas (que eran los que conocían las escrituras) y les preguntó el lugar del nacimiento del Mesías, del Salvador que el pueblo judío esperaba hacia mucho tiempo.
Ellos contestaron: En Belén de Judá, pues así está escrito por el Profeta:

Y tú, Belén tierra de Judá
de ningún modo eres la menor
entre las principales ciudades de Judá
porque de ti saldrá un jefe
que será el pastor de mi pueblo Israel

Entonces Herodes, llamando aparte a los magos, los envió a la ciudad de Belén y les dijo: Vayan e infórmense muy bien sobre ese niño; y cuando lo encuentren, avísenme para que yo también vaya a adorarlo.

Los Reyes Magos se marcharon y la estrella que habían visto en el Oriente, iba delante de ellos hasta que fue a pararse sobre el lugar donde estaba el Niño. Al ver la estrella, sintieron una gran alegría.
Entraron en la casa y vieron al niño con María su madre. Se hincaron y lo adoraron. Abrieron sus tesoros y le ofrecieron regalos: oro, incienso y mirra. Luego, habiendo sido avisados en sueños que no volvieran a Herodes, (pues él quería buscar al Niño para matarlo), regresaron a su país por otro camino.” (Mateo 2, 1-12)

Celebramos el Día de los Reyes Magos con regalos, recordando los regalos que los magos le llevaron a Jesús:

• oro: que se les da a los reyes, porque Jesús ha venido como rey de todo el mundo
• incienso: que se le da a Dios, porque Jesús es el hijo de Dios hecho hombre
• mirra: que se untaba a los muertos, porque Jesús era Hombre entre los hombres

Sigan el ejemplo de los magos. Busquen a Jesús.

"After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the time of King Herod, Magi from the East were presented in Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? . For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him
Hearing this, King Herod was very worried; then called some men who Pontiffs and scribes were called (which were those who knew the scriptures) and asked the birthplace of the Messiah, the Savior that the Jewish people waited to long.
They answered: In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are by no means the least
among the rulers of Judah,
for out of thee shall come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel

Then Herod summoned the wise men, sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and make good on that child; and when you find it, let me know so that I too may go and worship him.

The Magi left, and the star they had seen in the East went before them until it was to stand on the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, they felt a great joy.

They entered the house and saw the child with Mary his mother. They knelt and worshiped him. They opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Then, having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, (for he wanted to find the child to kill him), they returned to their country by another way. "(Matthew 2: 1-12)

We celebrate the Day of the Three Kings with gifts, remembering the gifts the Magi brought to Jesus:

• Gold that is given to kings, because Jesus has come as king worldwide
• Frankincense that is given to God because Jesus is the Son of God made man
• Myrrh that anointed the dead, for Jesus was man among men

Follow the example of the Magi. Look to Jesus.
