Today's Gospel: Mark 8:11-13

The Pharisees come forward asking for a sign, and Jesus says, Sorry, no sign for you. Why? All through the Gospels we see Jesus giving sign after sign: miraculous healings, power over the natural world, even raising men from the dead. What's different now?

God is a Person, not a law of physics. He isn't a force we can harness and control; He is someone who loves us and acts in the world for our good. If we demand He behave according to our plans and our schedules, we are demanding He be something other than God.

When I don't see signs of God in my life, the answer isn't, “I guess God's not here after all.” The answer is: What is it I'm not seeing?

Ponder:

Is God acting in a way, now, utterly different than you'd become used to? Are you struggling with the seeming silence of God in your life? Is someone you know despairing because she feels abandoned by God?

Pray:

Lord, I want to give myself to You. I want to trust You completely in everything. But when things are so very hard, and I am hurting so much, it's hard for me to see what You're doing. Please help me see the signs of Your love for me, even when they are, for now, buried in the grave. Amen.
