Gospel Reflections 800x800 blue outlineToday's Gospel: Luke 6:12-16

Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles

Imagine an entire night, alone, in prayer, with God. What a spiritual high, or maybe you would have clarity about your path in life or have the answer to a question troubling you. Or there is the possibility you would finally have peace in your soul. I’ve never spent all night awake and in prayer, but I’ve come close.

Jesus spends his night praying to God on a mountain and then begins calling his Apostles. His public ministry is about to begin. We can learn from Jesus’ actions. Pray before you make major decisions. And pray not for only approval, but for wisdom to know what to do and guidance for God’s help.

Ponder:

When is the last time you were able to spend an extended time in prayer? Try to find a way to get a few hours to yourself and open yourself up to what God has for you. If you can’t, focus on praying for wisdom and guidance, rather than approval.

Pray:

Father God, you guided your Son in his ministry. Give me the courage to allow you to guide me as well. I seek to know your wisdom so I can act as you want me to in my ministry. Amen.
