Today's Reflection:

My mom was old-school Southern, and hospitality was her gift. Everyone who came to our home felt welcome. She always had a smile and some sweet tea to offer. I remember the well stuffed, multi-color couch that was designated for "visiting" and how my mom's accent would rise and fall like a song as she chatted.

In today's reading, John Paul the Great describes entrusting Mary as taking her "into one's own home." At the beginning of this consecration journey, I struggled to find a place for Mary in my faith life. Giving so much to her seemed weird and misplaced, when just offering my whole self to Christ is a constant tug-of-war. How could I find room in my heart for Mary, too? Would I be able to welcome her with the same enthusiasm my mother had for company in our home?

Gradually, I've been able to offer more to Mary, to begin creating a space for her in my heart, knowing she is magnifying my love for Jesus. In the words of my teen, "It's like Mary is the best wi-fi router ever." Who better to direct my prayers and petitions in heaven? She wants to bring me closer to her Son; I just need to invite her to the comfy couch and give her reason to linger.

To Ponder:

Jesus entrusted himself to Mary at the Incarnation. Can I imitate Christ by entrusting myself to Mary, too?

Let Us Pray:

Come, Holy Spirit, living in Mary. Help me to create a welcoming place for Mary so that she can bring me closer to her Son.
