As soon as I saw this book I knew I wanted it in our collection and that my husband would love it! And when my husband loves a book, he goes out of his way to read it to my children often. This delightful children's book is great for lovers of nature and plants seeds in the hearts of children for understanding that God loves all his creatures.
The Great Carp Escape was written by Irish Beth Maddock.
At the beginning of the book, the children discover a carp fish and declare that it is so ugly! Later, some carp fish get trapped in a pond near their house and it becomes a community effort to save these fish and get them back to the lake. The children learn that all life is precious and that God loves everything he's created, even "ugly, slimy fish."
My girls really enjoy fishing with their dad so they also like this book a lot. The pages are beautiful. They are shiny and have the feeling of photographs. The illustrations are very realistic and I like that the book surrounds normal family life. It's exactly the type of book I want my children reading instead of books that are over-commercialized and dramatized.
My favorite part is at the end when there is a wonderful quote from Willam Henry Monk:
"All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all."
The Great Carp Escape is a great addition to our library and one I would highly recommend!
