From the Fullness of the Heart the Fingers Text

"A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks."(Luke 6:45)

Texting relationships are a real thing. For some people it's the only way they communicate. Don't get me wrong. Texting as a way of staying in touch with my family and friends who are far away is powerful in keeping our hearts connected.

But precisely because we can hide in cyberspace, and not be face to face, words on the smartphone screen can be typed out with little to no thought. And that's where the danger comes in.

If time is not spent outside of texting- filling the heart with the good things of God, then the heart may be becoming a storehouse for bad and selfish thoughts and words. Hitting "send" can produce the evil the Lord is warning about.

From the fullness of our hearts our fingers text.

I saw it posted in a local high school window as students, staff, and visitors enter through the front door. A hopeful suggestion about responsible posting in social media. Using the acronym, "THINK" readers are asked to pause and ask themselves 5 questions. Is it "Truthful"? Is it "Helpful"? Is it "Inspiring"? Is it "Necessary"? Is it "Kind"?

What would happen if we paused and gave the Lord a glance before we sent our messages? What if we sent words that came from a storehouse full of God's graces?

Texting can be such a great tool to inspire, share truth, help, and offer kindness. How can we use the virtue of temperance as stop to think if it was a really "necessary" message? Regular times of turning to the Lord for relationship can show us the important balance of communication with Him and then with others. And we find He fills our hearts with good things for our fingers to text- messages that further His Kingdom.
