Today's Gospel: Mark 8, 1-10

How often have you wondered where the money is going to come from to put food on your table when you are going through hard times? And yet, somehow, the Lord always provides! In today’s Gospel, He does the same for the 4,000 people gathered to hear Him preach. They have been listening to Him over a three-day period. By now, they are very hungry, as they have nothing to eat. The Lord sees that and has compassion for them. He does what is necessary to meet their physical needs.

This Gospel, and miracle, is a foreshadowing of what would occur at the Last Supper when Christ gave us the Eucharist to sustain us spiritually. God’s message is that He will always feed his people, both physically and spiritually – you can count on that!

Ponder:

Do you give thanks every day to the Lord for sustaining you both physically and spiritually? If not, today would be a great day to begin!

Pray:

Lord, help me to remember that all that I have is because of your love and compassion for me. You have my heart-felt gratitude for sustaining me both physically and spiritually. Amen.
