Every month here at the website, I post a new Unbound "friend" for you to meet and I ask for your prayers and sponsorship consideration. When I do this, I take the child to prayer myself - having traveled recently to India to meet my Unbound sponsored elder Lourdhumary, I can attest firsthand to the impact of sponsorship not only on those we help to support, but also on our own lives. For about $1 per day, we have the opportunity to make true, lasting change for these children--nutritionally, educationally, medically and in standard of living. But to be honest, you can expect when you sponsor with Unbound that your own life will be changed as well in ways that you can only begin to imagine. Your Unbound friend will become a part of your family. You will write each other cherished letters a few times per year. You will have the chance to see your Unbound friend grow and become educated. You will hear from them about how your donations are impacting their life. You may even have the chance some day to meet them in person, but even if you don't you will know that you have taken steps to answer Christ's gospel call to walk in solidarity with those in need.

Editor’s note: We’re thrilled to again be partnering with our friends at Unbound to be a part of their service to families around the world. Each month, Unbound joins us at CatholicMom.com to offer you the chance to partner tangibly with them by prayerfully considering sponsoring a child or aging friend. If I can personally answer any questions for you about sponsorship or my own encounters with Unbound, please do not hesitate to reach out! Thank you for joining us in this important mission. Please keep the work of Unbound and all of those who serve those in need in your prayers! Lisa Hendey

Editor’s note: I hope you enjoyed traveling with me to India as I met my Unbound sponsored elder Lourdhumary. I can attest firsthand to the impact of sponsorship not only on those we help to support, but also on our own lives. I hope as we anticipate the season of Lent that you will pray about how coming into relationship with a sponsored friend and how truly walking in companionship with those in need might be part of your Lenten journey this year.

Meet Werner!

Werner helps his family at home by feeding the chickens.

Werner is a handsome seven-year-old boy growing up in Guatemala. He likes to eat carrots and potatoes and also enjoys drawing and coloring. His goal in life is to become a police officer so that he can give security to people. His job at home is feeding the chickens.

Werner lives with his mother, aunt, two brothers and a sister. Both his mother and aunt embroider traditional blouses to provide income for the family. The family wants to get ahead and improve their living condition. They are going to make this a reality with help from Unbound by investing their benefits in activities such as raising animals, which will provide another source of income.

By sponsoring Werner, he will begin to receive the tangible benefits such as education and nutrition. This will also provide the family to be fully integrated in a local caring community, with programs and services designed to improve their quality of life and empower them to break the cycle of poverty.
