"Pondering Lent" by Elizabeth Estrada (CatholicMom.com) Pixabay (2015) CC0 Public Domain[/caption] Every year, as Ash Wednesday gets closer, I begin to think about what I should  do for Lent? Will I pray more? What will I take on? As my mind begins to make the list of what I want to do and then becomes overwhelmed with what I read online, the confusion grows and the list only gets longer. So as I pondered, God in his goodness led me to what I think he wants me to do in order to  grow closer to him. In the last couple of weeks, I have been listening to EWTN podcasts on my way to and from work. For days, I listened to Jerry and Debbie's Take 2 and Father Wade on Open Line Tuesday. I heard many things that touched my heart and I always walk away with a new piece of knowledge about my faith. There was one thing I heard, though,  that seemed to hit me on the head like a 2x4. On one of his shows, Father Wade suggested that listeners consider reading the Gospel of Mark. Perhaps by reading a chapter a day, especially because of all Jesus does for so many. Over time, I have read parts of the Bible,  some of Sirach and the Psalms, but I have never read a Gospel from beginning to end on my own. Perhaps, its because I have been intimidated by the Bible and therefore have only taken baby steps. Usually, I will take up my Bible to  look up a verse someone sends me, or a chapter someone mentions on the radio or television program.  However, I want to be able to  appreciate the Bible as the magnificent gift that God has given  to me. This Lent I will read the Gospels, beginning with Mark, to grow closer in my relationship with God  to see where He leads me in his word.

What will you do this Lent to get closer to Him?
