When I read the description for Stories of the Blessed Sacrament by Francine Bay (Magnificat), I just had to jump all over the chance to review this book: “Twelve inspiring stories that help children get to know Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and encourage them to remain close to him in the Eucharist all their lives.”
Sign me up!
This book is recommended for ages 7 and up. There are some stories included that involve martyrdom and war, so because of this that age guideline is understandable. I read the stories with all of my boys, ages 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. The pictures were great for the 2- year-old, the 4- and 6-year-olds handled the more intense stories well and the 8- and 10-year-olds truly had some beautiful little God moments while reading this book.

What I love about this book is the Eucharistic walk it takes you on, beginning in the Old Testament, flowing into the New Testament, and then telling stories of the Eucharist in real-life events.
The sequence does a great job of establishing foundations of where the Blessed Sacrament came from and what it can be for you and your kids today.
A huge bonus: Holy moley, the conversations that sprung up with my children after reading each story … sometimes they were too much for my mommy heart to handle, they were so beautiful!
The older kids were asking questions about our faith, they were asking to find out more about the saints they had just read about and they even opened up about things going on in their little lives!
Since the book is so steeped in God’s magnificence, my boys let their minds go to all things most important to them and desired to know – and talk -- more.
Our time reading these stories together were a true gift.
In this sad time of so many people not believing in the True Presence and asking the question, “how do fix this?” God’s timing on Stories of the Blessed Sacrament could not be more perfect.
How do we keep our children Catholic and how do we instill a strong love for the Eucharist? Well, this book is one of those answers.
Read this book as a family and then make a special trip to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel together. Talk to your kids about why you love Jesus in the Eucharist so much and then read to them one of these stories that share others’ love for the Eucharist as well. Inspire your children to be in awe of that tiny yet incredibly powerful Host through these grace-filled pages.
Stories of the Blessed Sacrament is a must-have in every Catholic family library.
