About a week ago I had the opportunity to spend some time with my sister and some of her friends at the Farmer’s Market. One of her good friends is a DJ from time to time and had invited her to this event. He would play music and people could dance.
If you know me, you would know that being outdoors in the Texas heat is not my thing, not even to hear good music. However, I thought I would be adventurous and have some quality time with my sister and her friends.
The experience was fun and amazing. Many passersby would look around to see my sister and her friends dancing to great, old music. Some would stop and watch, others would start walking and dancing, and many kids would want to join in or just watch in amazement.
At one point, there were about twenty people or so in the middle of the street line dancing! What made this amazing was that there were people from all walks of life, ages, backgrounds, enjoying themselves because of the music.
As I thought about this experience, I was sure of one thing, God was at the center of this amazing moment. People weren't preoccupied with race or age. Everyone was laughing and smiling enjoying the moment together.
This was reassuring especially because of so many awful things happening in public places where people notice their differences more than they do what brings them together.
This experience made me see that God created music for people to enjoy, and also to bring people together.
How have you found God in music?
