Once in a while, a film comes along which expertly marries the struggles of earth with the glories of heaven. “Love and Mercy: Faustina” is such a film.
The emotionally-riveting docudrama tells the incredible story of a humble nun who experiences a soul-stirring vision of Jesus. It was that vision that became the inspiration for the “Divine Mercy” image of Jesus which has been seen around the world.
The actress who portrays Faustina, Kamila Kaminska, excels in demonstrating both the humility and the fierce determination of a woman who eventually would be declared a saint.
“At a certain point I stopped focusing on St. Faustina, and I started experiencing God’s presence, love and trust,” Kaminska said.
The film seamlessly weaves dramatic depictions of Faustina’s life with interviews from contemporary experts about the events which shaped Faustina and ultimately led to the global reach of the Divine Mercy devotion.
It is truly striking how Faustina’s message of the love and mercy of God faced overwhelming obstacles in its dissemination. Perhaps the struggle is in itself a testament to the power of the message. Indeed, today’s world seems starved at times for the beautiful, redemptive nature of mercy.
