"Appreciating good decisions" by Anne DeSantis (CatholicMom.com) Image credit: Pixabay.com (2016), CC0/PD[/caption] God has blessed all of us with life. But it is up to us to make something of that life. We live in a world where competition begins at a young age. Even while babies are in the womb, our culture entices us to immediately start spending money for the baby shower and the beautiful baby room with all the trimmings. It all has its place, but we can get caught up in some unimportant things when we obsess about the perfect outward image instead of focusing on the love we can give to the baby and our future families. After all, in years down the road, our children won’t care that we had a perfectly decorated room and designer baby clothes. The relationships formed and the time we spent with our families is worth so much more. In my own life, I had to make similar decisions. When I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, I had intentions of going right back to my 45-hour-a-week, full-time job. I could not imagine what it would be like to stay home and spend that time with my little one. But a week or two after she was born, I decided to quit my job and be the “stay-at-home” mom. I did not know how long it would last, but the years went by as I ended up homeschooling my children and sacrificing many material goods to be with them. It was the best decision I ever made. Now, I know that not everyone can stay home and some mothers prefer to work. My point is not to say that my path is the best for everyone, but to encourage you to follow your heart in whatever God is leading you to do for your family. And through it all, whether in the midst of society’s pressure or financial demands, remember the blessing of life and the relationships we have been given. Prayer Lord, thank you for giving us life, complete with both the good and the bad. We know you are all good and trust in your perfect plan. Thank you for family and thank you for helping us to make the tough decisions of life. We trust you. We turn to you completely to guide all our ways. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord.
