In her new printable booklet, Culture-of-Life Voices of the Bible, Susan Ciancio from the Culture of Life Studies Program provides a fresh new approach to Lenten prayer. Each of the forty days of Lent is assigned a figure from Scripture whose actions promote pro-life principles. There is a passage from the Bible for each day, along with two paragraphs explaining the reading and a series of reflection questions centered on building a culture of life. Each day’s reading concludes with “Daily Wisdom,” a quote from the book of Wisdom with a suggested behavior or practice for the day.

A Unique Focus
The specific focus on culture-of-life voices is unique and appealing. During a season when we focus on dying to self, it makes perfect sense to think about the needs of our more vulnerable brothers and sisters in Christ and reflect on how we can better care for them. The scriptural examples provide inspiring and concrete methods for reaching out in love to the unborn, the poor, the elderly, and others. Each day’s readings create a clear connection between biblical truth and Christian action.
Accessible for All
What’s also nice about this booklet is that it’s simple, direct, and accessible. It can be so easy to over-complicate our Lenten practices, but the predictable structure of each day’s readings along with the attractive, clean layout of the pages makes this feel like a very doable and manageable Lenten devotion.
The subtitle of this booklet is “40 Days of Stories and Reflections for the Entire Family,” and the content is definitely appropriate for elementary-aged children and adults alike. My kids are ages 5 to 12, and I could see the reflections working well for our family prayer time, not just this Lenten season, but for years to come.

Culture-of-Life Voices of the Bible is available as a digital download from the American Life League Store at Shop.ALL.org for just $2. Download your copy now, and you’ll be all set for Lent!
