Elizabeth Estrada details several ways she has grown closer to the Blessed Mother.
On September 8, we celebrated Mother Mary’s Nativity. I look forward to this day every year! It is a beautiful reminder of the gift our Lord has given us in Mary.
My sister always celebrates her birthday all month long and I think we should celebrate Mother Mary through all of September. We also remember all her sorrows on September 15, so why not?
Every year I try to become closer to Mary by discovering a new prayer or devotion. She has been such a wonderful intercessor for me and my son. Years ago I began praying the Tessera as a member of the Legion of Mary. Many things in my life changed for the better because I was able to listen to the Holy Spirit. I believe that Mary gave me the courage to be strong as she had to be throughout her life, as the mother of our Lord.
St Louis de Montfort’s Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary also helped me learn more about Mother Mary. This led me to my consecration, which I made on her birthday many years ago.
Learning more about Mary and trusting her as my heavenly mother has been a gift in so many ways. I turn to her throughout the day and share my joys and sorrows. I pray that she will guide and watch my son every day.
I have tried to pray the Angelus as well, remembering how her "yes" changed the world. If you don’t have a devotion to Mother Mary, I encourage you to pray that she will show you the way to get closer to her, which will always lead you to be closer to Jesus. After all, she wants you to love Him more than you love her.
