As Pentecost approaches, Deanna Bartalini shares an ancient prayer to the Holy Spirit.
This coming Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit comes upon all those in the upper room, inspires and enables them to move and begin the work Jesus entrusted to them. Go out into the world and share the Good News. Make disciples. Baptize.
A few months ago, I found a new prayer to the Holy Spirit. Actually, the prayer found me, as it came to my inbox from Diocesan. I have been praying it and sharing it with various groups for weeks now.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit (From an Ancient Pentecost Liturgy)
Come Divine Spirit –
Rattle our cages –
Break into our locked houses –
Water our parched land –
Undo our bends and twistedness –
Awaken our hearts –
Help us to overflow with kindness –
And –
Give us unending joy!
AMEN!
This prayer reminds me that sometimes the Spirit wants to work in a big way, He is bold and wants to shake us up a bit, though I do think we invite and give permission for that to happen.
I'd love to hear what you think of this prayer. And as we approach the great feast of Pentecost, may you be filled with the Holy Spirit.
