I have thoroughly enjoyed other chapter books by Kathryn Swegart, so I was excited to read her newest book. Each of her series introduces young readers to some of the incredible aspects of the Catholic faith. In Rescued II, the reader is treated to some fascinating stories of faith and heroism. I was familiar with most of these stories, but still learned some new aspects of these inspiring true tales.

Packed with Page-Turning Stories

The page-turning stories include some that focus on bravery, such as a modern-day war hero whose unwavering faith gave hope to so many and a religious sister who stood up to gunslinging bandits.

Animal lovers will thoroughly appreciate the determination of some life-saving canines, one who battled through freezing temperatures to help a desperate community in need, and another faithful companion who led many to safety during one of the most devastating attacks on our country.

Then there are the inspiring accounts that showcase the work of the Holy Spirit as chance meetings brought strangers together and guided them through some of the most tragic events of the last century.

The collection also includes stories of familiar saints, one who lived so long ago that his tale has reached mythical proportions, and a more recent saint whose faith never wavered during her frightening journeys to spread the love of Christ.

And finally, there is much we can learn from the stories of faithful servants who answered God's call, from the simple shepherd boy of Biblical fame to a spunky modern-day nun. Both were filled with determination to find a way, despite overwhelming odds, to do what God called them to do.

I appreciate how this inspiring collection offers a wonderful way to discuss aspects of our faith, such as what God is calling us to do and how to persevere in difficult moments. As an added benefit, the author has included additional facts at the end of the book, making it a perfect supplement for teachers and homeschooling families.
