Anne DeSantis lists three ways you and your family can honor the Blessed Mother throughout the coming year.
The Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary on January 1 each year, and this feast honors Mary’s motherhood. It is also the eighth day of Christmastide and a very special time of the liturgical year. Our Blessed Mother deserves our time and attention on all her beautiful feast days; we should love and honor her in the greatest of ways. Here are three ways to grow deeper in devotion to Mary in the new year and beyond.
The Rosary
There is no greater way to love and give time and attention to Our Lady than in praying the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is the greatest prayer as it encompasses the Gospel of Christ, her Son. The mysteries of the Rosary are all about the paschal mystery of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Each one invites us to pray with Mary on the life of Christ. Gather the family around for the Rosary as often as possible. Make it a point to pray the Rosary each day as you are able.
Statues
Statues, icons, and holy objects are reminders of our faith, and they are a blessing to have inside and around a home. Statues of Mary are a beautiful reminder of the Mother of God and of your love for her and her Son. Having a statue of Mary inside and even outside of one’s home offers a place of prayer for a Rosary or other prayer to the Blessed Mother. Statues are also a wonderful reminder to children of the love of Mary.
Our Lady's Intercession
Always ask Mary's intercession. She is close to her Son, and she cares deeply for you as she is the Church’s greatest saint. When we beg for Mary's intercession, we are honoring her—not just in one month of the year, but every day and in all ways. Pray the Hail Mary throughout the day and teach children the value of loving Mary as the Mother of God. She is a tender mother who prays for all her children.
