Charisse Tierney shares a podcast she recently recorded about her friend who left a lasting legacy of holiness after her battle with cancer.

I can only believe it’s her by the tattoos on her left foot. I see them as I rub her foot and wish I had asked her what they meant. I can guess. The images of the tiny tattooed footprints bring the expected to mind. But now I want to know the story of the why and the when and the how. I want to go back in time and get to know my friend better. If only I had known. If only I could have foreseen how little time I would have with her. I want to go back and notice more about how this mother of four pruned her heart and her soul so well.

Awestruck

These are some thoughts I penned as I began the draft of the book about my friend, Jaylen Meyer, who passed away from cancer last October. I began the introduction of the book with a reflection on the time I spent with her just three days before she passed — time that left me awestruck by the story I was witnessing.

The trials Jaylen faced throughout her life are trials that many others have faced. The daily life she lived as a mother of four mirrored the ups and downs of so many other moms just like her.

Transformed

But the transformation of her soul was not such a common thing. The way she accepted her illness and surrendered her own desires for those of God was something that is rarely seen. The pure joy on her face when she talked about joining Jesus in heaven was enviable … and made earthly pleasures pale in comparison.

I recorded the following podcast on Veil and Armour with Sheila Nonato. Sheila allowed me to tell Jaylen’s story and release it to the world so others can be inspired and start living their holiest lives now. This is Part One of the podcast which gives some insight into where Jaylen came from: her childhood, her struggles with addiction, and the start of her marriage and conversion to the Catholic faith. Part Two will include some of the “holy moments” leading up to her final days and passage into the arms of Jesus.

Part Two of the podcast will be released on Veil and Armour in the upcoming weeks as I continue to work on the book about Jaylen, Beautiful Soul.
