Allison Brown introduces a new Catholic magazine with a Marian focus, designed to inspire readers to live life with a deep Marian devotion.
Kindred Catholic

Kindred Catholic: The Fiat is a beautifully presented Catholic journal digest for women. I am proud to have contributed to this project, which was launched on the 7th of October, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Mary Claire Schnoll, the editor of Kindred Catholic, is an artist, designer, and Catholic business owner. You may recognise her from 12th and Blossom, “a Marian-inspired brand that helps Catholic women cultivate devotion through beauty, creativity, and community.” She writes:
Inside these pages, you'll find inspiration, ideas, and devotion from Catholic women all over the world — women who struggled for years to find a relationship with Mary, women who have always known her simply as "Mom,” and women somewhere in between. Written by converts, reverts, and cradle Catholics alike.
You'll move through three parts: the Fount, where we discover who Mary is; the Fiat, where we invite her into our daily, ordinary lives; and the Fruit, where that devotion turns outward into how we love the people around us.

Something for Everyone
What drew me to Kindred Catholic is that there is something for everyone. We express our love for Mary through many forms of art, yet we are all connected by the one true faith, and the result is a treasure trove of artistic expressions of love for our dearly beloved Mother Mary. This collection of reflections, meditations, poetry, and artwork (including a yummy recipe for brownies, by Christina Branco, a Catholic food photographer at Starving Artist Food Photography, in honour of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel!) is timeless and invites you to return to it again and again through all seasons of life. The beautiful artwork jumps off the pages in brilliant colours, and the poetry and meditations lead the reader into deep reflection on the love our Mother has for all of us. This collection inspires readers to live life with a deep Marian devotion.
Amy Brooks of Prayer Wine Chocolate and Catholics Online, author of the Be Yourself Catholic Journals (which I highly recommend for your kids!), shares a moving article about how Our Lady of Guadalupe began making her presence known to Amy — and the beautiful connection between her twins' adoption and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Emily Dieter of Tracing Tradition invites us to practise the virtue of slowing down as we patiently and prayerfully trace the words with her complementary traceable cursive Hail Mary. She also shares how the Holy Spirit inspired her to create her cursive board designs and how her children learned from an early age to write their prayers in cursive.
Haley Dessauer, from This Little Fiat, shares with us a beautiful prayer, Prayer of a Mother, and Lindsey Grace Mariella from Adore Him Meditations shares three inspiring poems and meditations on Mary for us to reflect on.
Allison Gingras, from Reconciled to You, author of Jesus Heals and Signs of Faith, and Director of Digital Evangelization for Holy Cross Family Ministries, writes about the Rosary and how we can imitate Mary. Allison invites us to examine each virtue, contemplating how to integrate them into our lives while also seeing this as an opportunity for growth in self-awareness and holiness.
You will find information on seven pilgrimages honouring Mary, written by Elayne Miller of Annunciation Designs, and instructions for a Marian embroidery design by Theresa Conlan, artist and owner of Happy Nest Home Goods. Morgan Selby @Morgansvillagehome shares her blueberry jam recipe. And our editor, Mary Claire Schnoll, answers questions about our Blessed Mother.
I contributed two essays. The first reflects on how Mary’s presence in my life has been both comforting and healing, and how she continues to show up in my time of need.
The second is about the profound grief I have experienced after losing twins through a miscarriage. I ponder Mary’s fiat and question whether I would still give the Lord my fiat if I knew the suffering and grief I would endure through miscarriage.
I really like the options available for purchasing The Fiat Issue: A softcover, a special deluxe hardbound edition, or a digital PDF version that can be downloaded and printed at home.
Although this journal is primarily aimed at women, anyone devoted to Mary will find it beautifully put together and, amongst its pages, discover inspiration in deepening their relationship with our Blessed Mother.
