Anne DeSantis describes four simple ways we can deepen our focus on the Eucharist.

Throughout the United States, the Church is focusing on the real presence and the beauty of the Holy Eucharist. It is a special time to honor, love, and adore our Lord in the Eucharist. As Catholics, we know that the Eucharist is the greatest gift from above, as it is really our Savior, Jesus Christ: body, blood, soul, and divinity. Below are four simple ways we can live a Eucharistic life, both now and in the future.

Receiving the Lord

The greatest way we can honor the Lord in the Eucharist is by going to Mass. The Mass is the highest form of prayer, as Jesus is made present to us on the altar. Going to Mass every Sunday or Saturday evening as a family is a way to celebrate this greatest of gifts. Prepare well before going to Mass by reading the Mass readings in advance and by getting to Mass early to pray beforehand. Make Sunday Mass the highlight of your day and your weekend to make the most out of this precious gift from God.

Eucharistic Adoration

Some parishes have 24/7 (perpetual) Eucharistic Adoration, which is a profound blessing. If your own parish offers it, find out which holy hours still need someone to make a weekly commitment. The time spent before the Blessed Sacrament is a time to reflect, pray, and be thankful. If your church does not offer Eucharistic Adoration, find a local church that does and make it a point to visit Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Inviting Others

Becoming Catholic is a process, and there is necessary catechesis (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) that must be done in order to receive the Eucharist at Mass and the other sacraments. It is a good idea to invite others, whether non-Catholics or those away from the Church, to attend Mass to pray and to get to know what the Catholic Church is all about.

If the person you invite decides to become Catholic or come back to the faith, next steps can begin at that point. It is always a wonderful idea to invite people to learn more. The invitation to be a member of the worldwide community of faith is open to all who wish to take the necessary steps to be in full communion with the Church. This is evangelization.

Prayer

Prayer is a beautiful way to live a Eucharistic life as it is our communication with Jesus. Prayer is the breath of our life of faith which we must take seriously. It also brings joy to our hearts knowing we are never alone; we are with God.

These ways to live a Eucharistic life are meant to bring fulfillment, joy, and most of all love to our daily walk with the Lord. Never give up reflecting on the fact that Jesus really is present to us in the Holy Eucharist.
