Charlene Rack reviews a volume of selections from the Spiritual Dialogues of Saint Catherine of Genoa, edited by Marc Aronoff.

Love's Guest: Reflections of Inspiration and Wonder, a book of annotated and edited selections from the Spiritual Dialogues of Saint Catherine of Genoa, is a wonderful gift. I found it uplifting, encouraging, challenging, and beautiful.

Editor Mark Aronoff did wonderful job choosing the selections and making them an easy and effortless read.

I was not familiar with the writings of Saint Catherine of Genoa, and would most likely never have come across them, if not for the opportunity to review this book. Saint Catherine was very holy, and definitely high above me in her spirituality, but her love for God shines through and makes me want to follow her example in striving to surrender all to God. This is a book that I can read over and over again, gleaning much from Saint Catherine’s sincere love God and her encouragement for attaining such love and confidence in God.

Saint Catherine, through Mr. Aronoff’s editing, helped me realize that I have to be the one who opens my heart to God piercing love, and, if I can truly do that, He will bring about profound change in my life. When Saint Catherine gave her heart to God, as well as her life and her marriage to a ill-tempered husband, both lives changed for good, and they spent most of the rest of their lives serving the poor and outcast in their city.

Don’t let this life distract you from your divine nature. The God Cord, our constant connection with God, which gives us a sense of clarity and connection. If we get distracted by earthly life, we can lose that connection with God, and very easily go adrift.

In my effort to grow strong in my connection to love and rely on God alone, I imagine that Love's Guest will be always easily in reach, one of the most dog-eared books and/or the one with the most sticky tabs hanging out, because I need all the help I can get from my “newest” encouraging saint friend, Saint Catherine of Genoa!
